| Directed by Roman Polanski Starring Walter Matthau, Cris Campion, Damien Thomas, Olu Jacobs IMDB: "One of Polanski's most underrated films." One of the great Pirate films of all time, includes a fully-functional Spanish galleon which is still anchored in the Italian port of Genoa. Matthau is great as Captain Thomas Bartholomew Red, a foul-mouthed curmudgeon on a hunt for an oft-stolen Aztec throne bound for Spain. "Holy Poker, you son of a double-eyed whore from the reeking gutters of Rotterdam!" -- Captain Red |

| Director: Rob Reiner Synopsis: When the lovely Buttercup is kidnapped by a ghastly gang intent on fermenting an international incident they find they are pursued by the Dread Pirate Roberts who just might be Westley, her one true love. Also after everyone is nasty Prince Humperdinck to whom Buttercup is now betrothed but who seems to care little for her continued survival. | Director: Peter Weir Synopsis: The year is 1805. Europe has fallen to Napoleon, and only the Royal Navy stands in his way to total victory. Off the cost of South America, a new conflict is brewing. Captain Jack "Lucky Jack" Aubrey (Russel Crowe) of the Man-of-War HMS Surprise is under orders to sink or capture the French privateer Acheron, which has been deployed to the region. After seven weeks of uneventful sailing, the Acheron strikes first, all but crippling the Surprise in an engagement in which Aubrey realizes his enemy's ship is nautically superior to his own. Along with his close friend and confidant Stephan Maturin (Paul Bettany) who also happens to be the ship's surgeon, Aubrey is now faced with the choice of retreating to England and admitting defeat or remaining at the Acheron's mercy. Aubrey must now do the impossible if he is to survive, repair his ship, catch up to his enemy and defeat the Acheron--somehow. Starring: Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany |

Synopsis: Morgan Adams (Geena Davis) and her learned slave, William Shaw (Matthew Modine), are on a quest to recover the three portions of a treasure map. The treasure is hidden on a mysterious Cutthroat island. Unfortunately, the final portion is held by her villainous uncle, Dawg Brown (Frank Langella). Her crew is skeptical of her leadership abilities, so she must complete her quest before they mutiny against her. On her ship, Morning Star, Morgan starts the voyage to Cutthroat Island. |

I just watched this flick last night with my husband and son. I must say, I loved it! The ending is very typical of the series...not really ending but, giving indication that there will be a 4th movie. There are some unexpected twists. Most of the movie is action packed. It ran a bit long though. They could have shortened its length by reducing the amount of time spent on the scene where Jack Sparrow is loosing his mind in Davy Jone's Locker. All in all money well spent.

After being hugely disappointed with the second Pirates movie, I'm waiting to hear what people think about the third installment? Is it worth the $9 to watch it in the theater?
If you've seen it, please weigh in here and help me out! Thanks! |
